Crap reviews and OkGo!

Ok, I was dumb and I navigated away from my blog without saving. I don't feel like retyping my short review of "Just Who the Hell Is SHE Anyway" by Marisa Acocella, so I'll just put that it was interesting, but the ending left me feeling a little gypped. Sunshine Cleaning also left me feeling somewhat the same though it wasn't quite as captivating. The little boy, was pretty smart, but he didn't know how to behave. The two girls can't seem to keep a decent job, so they start their own business, which is illegitimate for most of the movie. The younger of the sister's has issues with their mother's suicide, despite not remembering much about her or the event. The dad does a lot of fly-by night stuff. At one point I thought he was going to commit suicide. The older sister who has the little boy, is sleeping with a guy she dated in high school, but is married and is expecting his second child. She has a problem with self-esteem and what people think of her. She does eventually find herself with the business and eventually stops seeing the guy. There is the prospect of another guy being interested in her, but nothing seems to come of it. At least they sort of just leave it. At the end they have their revelations, yet the kid still hasn't been in school for weeks at least and suddenly the father decides to help the business. Wtf.

The good part of this post starts here!

I went to my first concert on Thursday night! I have gone to Rock Fest and Country Jam before, but that isn't the same. So, I got tickets to see Ok Go with Larry! We had some Jimmy Johns and then made our way there around 6:20ish. Doors were supposed to open at 7, but we were stuck waiting out in the cold until about 7:20. There were several people there, but it wasn't overly crowded. There were people sitting on the bleachers, which Larry told me was weird. I also agree even though I had never been to an indoor concert like this before. We were pretty near the front. I am ridiculously short so I couldn't see anything a lot of the time. Also there was a girl who needed to always be in front of me and whip me in the face with her hair. I totally wanted to deck her. She eventually moved, and then another girl took her place and the same thing happened again. I never wished so much for a scissors in my life. The concert was great. The opening act was Princeton, and along with their stupid name they weren't that good. Their first song was descent and really promising, but it pretty much went downhill from there. OkGo played several songs from their album that will be coming out soon. I plan to possibly buy it. The lead singer is not the guy in the glasses that the music videos lead you to believe. The lead singer is a self-proclaimed sarcastic asshole. I like him. He can play guitar a heck of a lot better than the guys in Princeton, who just sort of mash on the strings during a solo. Also, I like the sarcasm and his laid-back nature. He's also rather good-looking. >.> Anyway, it was loud! They did a nifty song with hand bells. I found it very entertaining and I giggled a lot. I did not have much room to dance and the crowd was not very responsive, which was a bummer. Larry enjoyed the concert as well. We saw some people we know there. We didn't stay afterward, though I think the band was going to do a meet and greet sort of thing. I could be wrong. My first concert experience was a good one. I look forward to more. Next time I will not bring such a bulky purse or jacket, and I will either bring a scissors and cut the hair off of girls in front of me, or push my way to a better spot. I would like to attend another OkGo concert in the future.

Lost Boys

So I just finished watching the movie the Lost Boys. Being a movie from 1987, I found it a bit corny and outdated, but still rather enjoyable. I am going to put spoilers in this, so this is the warning here. So, the grandfather of the two main characters is weird and really in to taxidermy which leads to some comic relief, but is really creepy because he does it in this really dark room with red lights and tells the boys to stay out. Their mother is a push-over, yet she handles her boyfriend being a vampire rather well. She does do the sensible thing and runs home when she hears screaming coming from her son on the telephone, though why she couldn't tell Max (the boyfriend) where she was going is beyond me. So, we have a group of delinquents, who also are vampires, running around the town and a ton of missing persons posters litter the boardwalk. I am rather glad they never showed the vampires flying, because I feel the corniness factor would be rather high. Michael for some reason decides to take drink from the gang after they make him see all these weird things. I suppose he decided it was all in his head, but wouldn't it be more sensible to not go drinking strange things. So Michael turns into a half-vampire and his brother threatens to kill him. He also meets these two hippie children who have an issue with vampires and run a comic shop while their parents sleep. I personally think they may be dead and the boys just put them there for show. Sam, the younger brother of Michael, thinks that his mom's boyfriend is the head vampire. I was really confused when that happened because there was nothing that led me to that conclusion. Also you have to kill the head vampire to reverse the half-vampire syndrome. So there is Star, this girl who Michael chases after and likes and becomes a vampire despite her warning, and her little brother who is not really given any introduction or purpose. She and her brother are also half-vamps and in the beginning it seemed that Star was with David, who is allegedly the head vampire because he leads the vampire gang. It turns out that she wants Michael. I was really confused how they ended up having sex when Michael turned up upset about what was happening.Star is upset and says she can't help him, but apparently she can make him feel better by having sex. Which brings me to the reason Michael was so upset. He was flying and he couldn't stop. It looked painful. Coincidentally this is also where the screaming their mother heard came from. So, we have a group of vampire punks terrorizing the boardwalk, a man who is not suspicious who is a suspect, a mother who is clueless about everything, a young adult guy who is turning into a vampire, a kid brother who is obsessed with comics and decides to help his brother with the help of some novice vampire-hunters who may or may not know what the hell they are doing. Oh, I forgot to mention the girl who is suddenly upset at her own vampirism as well as her brothers. I think that they showed missing person's posters of these kids, but it's just not enough. The little boy is pointless. Somehow, though they were very loud, the boys sneak up on the sleeping vampires and manage to kill one. La-di-da, they get ready for night because the vampires are going to come after them. The kids go to a church, fill their canteens with holy water during a baptism, and the people just stare and don't say anything. long battle sequence short, they kill the vampires each in a gruesome and violent way, with the exception of David. For some reason he got a rather peaceful end, and didn't explode; he even got heavenly light. unfortunately, it's not over yet, nope, they were wrong and it was Max the whole time. Wtf, how did that happen? Luckily he lets them know that he just wanted one big happy vampire family with his boys and the mother and her boys. Star and her brother are not mentioned. Another stroke of luck is that Grandpa happens to know that there is a vampire in the house somehow, and drives his conveniently loaded with fence stakes truck backward into the house and impales the evil vampire baddy who just wanted a wife. everyone goes back to normal and grandpa says something about all the damn vampires in the town. So aside from the bad hair, and fashion sense, and plot issues, the movie wasn't all bad.

A New Day

Hi all! (basically hello patti, drew, and larry.) This is my spot where I will post my thoughts on things like comics (often), art, and movies, and life in general. As if people write other things in their blogs. Anyway, if any of you are interested in designing a layout for me, it would be much appreciated. I don't have a whole lot of time right now so, this is my first blog post, finished.
